Altitude Rush Soccer
Three-Week Summer Camp Series

Join us for Altitude Rush’s three-week summer training camp series. This unique training camp is broken down into three modules; Skill acquisition and individual tactics, specific position training, and team tactics. Join us for one week, or two, or stay for all three to maximize your playing potential. If you enjoy your experience, consider staying with us for the whole year by enrolling in our boarding academy program.

Camp Overview

Each week we will offer three unique training sessions per day, totaling 22 hours on the field. Additional focus will be placed on mental preparation and physical conditioning (including speed, agility, balance, and structured weight room sessions). We understand every athlete is unique so each training session will vary in volume and intensity based on the athlete’s development level. Throughout the course of an athlete’s stay, we monitor their progress through a periodized approach to ensure long-term soccer development as well as nutrition planning to allow players to reach their full potential.

This three-week camp series will run two times over summer.

Series 1 – 6/18/23 – 7/8/23

  • Week 1 = 6/18/23
  • Week 2 = 6/25/23

Series 2 – 7/16/23 – 8/5/23

  • Week 1 = 7/16/23
  • Week 2 = 7/23/23
  • Week 3 = 7/30/23

Skill Acquisition & Individual Tactics

Week 1

This week is geared toward acquiring and increasing technique under the immediate pressure of the opponent. We will focus extensively on the application of tactics in 1v1 and 2v1 situations.

Specific Positional Training

Week 2

The second week begins with technical training for the skill required in each position. We then progress to the tactical functions for each position and how each position relates to one another.

Group and Team Tactics

Week 3

In our third and final week, we will address developing tactical awareness and the ability to read the game in all phases of play, both offensively and defensively.

Week 1

Skill Acquisition & Individual Tactics

  • Morning sessions are geared toward acquiring or increasing technique of the game’s basic skills. We focus on frequent repetition and emphasizing equal execution with both the dominant and non-dominant foot.

    • Shooting
    • Crossing
    • Heading

 

  • Afternoon sessions are centered on how to apply the skills in 1v1 situations.

 

  • Evening matches are an opportunity to put the skills to use in a game situation.

Week 2

Positional Play

  • In week two there is a quick review of each skill as part of the warm-up. Players are divided by Team Positions to focus on exactly how to apply the techniques that are more specific to their role in a team and the functions and tasks of their position.

 

  • As the week progresses the emphasis shifts from the Technical to the Tactical Functions of each position and how to navigate the 3 thirds of the field in both attack and defense in relation to the players they are connected to.

Week 3

Group & Team Tactics

  • Week three puts it all together in an effort to increase tactical acumen and awareness in each Phase of Play. Players work with their specific line of the team and then 2 lines work together building to the full 11v11 tactics in order to promote game understanding and improve game literature or reading the game.

 

  • Topics range from building up and creating chances, counter-attacking, and wide play on attack, to pressing and defending a compact block in defense.

Ferdinando De Matthaeis, Director of Soccer

Since 1999, Soccer Hall of Fame Coach, Ferdinando coached 4 teams in Italy, and 12 teams in the U.S. He has coached multiple all-star teams and brings his wealth of knowledge and passion for the sport to Club Med Academies. Before coaching, he achieved honors and awards as a soccer player, with accolades ranging from Top Scorer and MVP as well as the captain of an all-star team. Ferdinando’s love for the game and passion for coaching make him the ideal professional to shape young athletes for success in soccer. Coach Ferdinando knows what it takes to train for a successful soccer career, and he can’t wait to help you improve your game.

Tom Durkin

Tom Durkin, Technical Director

US Soccer A License, National Staff Coach & Instructor/Coach Educator.

Tom has extensive experience at every level of US Soccer. His coaching background ranges from Youth to Professional. Tom is highly regarded for his ability to develop players and cultivate talent, respected for his tactical acumen and dedication to the growth of soccer in the US.

Tom has a unique perspective on US Soccer having coached and directed programs with The Tampa Bay Mutiny (MLS), Boston Breakers (NWSL), and Bradenton Academics (USL2), (NCAA) Rutgers and Northeastern Universities DI & DIII, (NJCAA) Union and Richland College, US Soccer U17 National team, The U17 National Team of India, US Soccer Development Academy League and Directing the North Texas and Eastern Pennsylvania State Associations.

Tom comes to the Rush family after a 5 years in the Boston area where led New England Futbol (NEFC) as Club Wide Director and Development Academy Coach. Happy to return to the academy platform in Florida, Tom was the Architect of the IMG Soccer Academy, designing a comprehensive player development plan that produced 52 professionals and hundreds of NCAA Division I Athletes over his 14 year tenure. He is very excited to build that level of success with Rush Soccer and the global vision of the club.

Tom has Coaching Certifications from FIFA World Youth Football Academy, The Irish Football Association (FAI), The Royal Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) and US Soccer Instructor Badge.
